Tinder users are more likely to think of themselves as sex objects than people who don't use the app, suggests a new study of online dating

Tinder is the monster that lived under your childhood bed: it stalks you when you're lonely, lurks with inappropriateness and provides great material for a story.

While it’s not fair to say  every Tinder experience ends badly (or at least hungover and half-naked in someone’s basement apartment), it’s pretty safe to assume that most dates don’t lead to marriage or even a second date. A booty call, sure, but an actual dinner-and-drinks setup? Probably not.

We assembled some of our favorite Tinder stories from both staffers and friends. Wince along with us -- and perhaps think twice about swiping right on that hottie with a puppy.

That’s what these Mumsnet users wanted to do, after revealing their worst date stories on the parenting website.

From cheese and onion crisps to velvet purses, some of these will make you want to give up on dating and delete your Tinder profiles forever.

2) ‘I’d never pay for sex, because you never know ’. I’m thinking ‘if the woman has been coerced or trafficked’. He went on, ‘if it was going to be any good’

If someone asks you to send them money on a dating app like Tinder, don’t do it. This might sound like common sense, but in a world where more people are meeting potential partners online, it can become all too easy for otherwise intelligent people to get scammed. And these Tinder horror stories are a testament to that.

I submitted a Freedom of Information Act request with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for consumer complaints about Tinder. And many of the stories are absolutely heartbreaking. The most common complaint? People getting scammed out of hundreds of dollars after believing that they were interacting with someone who had a romantic interest. Often the complaints are from women who thought they’d met a nice man in the military who happened to be stationed overseas.

Roughly 27 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds say they use online dating apps and websites, up from just 10 percent in 2013. But it’s not just young people who have moved their dating online. About 12 percent of 55 to 64-year-olds use these sites and apps as well. And the proliferation of this technology can sometimes cause people to let their guard down after getting to know someone through the filter of a smartphone screen.

I don t but that s what some men are like (a woman where I used to work discovered her new husband having sex with someone else, at her wedding reception.. needless to say it didn t last long). Some men are always on the hunt, sorry to say. I d suggest that online dating isn t the way to go if you want to meet people. It s too easy for the a$$holes to trick people.

My friend whom I have a massive crush on found me on Tinder the one I made him get so that maybe he wouldn't find out what a massive crush I have on him. We right-swiped each other obviously cause that s friend etiquette, right? Now we just send each other ridiculous Tinder screenshots and bond over it. I was secretly pleased when his first Tinder date sucked because "she didn t think he was funny." I think he s hilarious.

I'd been on Tinder a few months, and had a pretty good idea of the lay of the land. Two-thirds of matches respond to me, and going from the app to texting is a big move that usually takes a day or two of Tinder chatting.

So it was with great excitement that one of my matches not only offered her number up right away, but actually called me the night we matched after a few texts (warning sign No. 1). The conversation was a little forward (warning sign No. 2), but we hit it off, so I didn t think much of it.

Some people have the magic touch when it comes to Tinder. You could chalk it up to luck, but the more likely reason is that their profile pic is on point, their bio reads well and they know how to message women on the app.

And when all those elements come together in perfect harmony, you get stories like the ones below. These are the Tinder hookups of legend the kind of fun, seamless, no-strings-attached experiences that guys and girls who are just looking for some casual flings dream of.
